Who Will Be the Most Searched Person on Google in 2026?

Google's 2026 most searched person prediction showdown

Kalshi traders are predicting which living person Google will rank #1 in the People category of its official global Year in Search 2026 report. Erling Haaland and Bad Bunny currently lead the market, while monthly search-volume estimates place Donald Trump and Taylor Swift at the top of a separate ranking.

Google's Year in Search has become one of the biggest annual snapshots of what captured public attention. Kalshi traders are now predicting which living person will finish first in the “People” section of Google's official 2026 global list, and the early market doesn't resemble a simple monthly-search leaderboard.

Erling Haaland leads the current market at 19¢, Bad Bunny follows at 16¢, and the remaining names are priced at 8¢ or less. More than $1.27 million has traded in the market, so this isn't an overlooked contract with only a handful of participants.

Search-volume research tells a different story. Current U.S. estimates place Donald Trump at 3.29 million searches per month and Taylor Swift at 2.95 million. Savannah Guthrie follows at 1.78 million, while Bad Bunny stands at 1.76 million. Haaland, despite leading the market, has an estimated U.S. monthly volume of 248,000.

That difference isn't necessarily a contradiction. Google says its Year in Search lists identify the fastest-rising trending searches compared with the prior year. They aren't a ranking of the names with the highest total search volume. Current Prices for Google's 2026 People Winner

Market Leader Haaland 19¢
Second Price Bad Bunny 16¢
Market Volume $1.27M
Settlement List Global People

Prices reflect the market on August 31, 2026. Contract prices, available quantities, average entry costs, and total volume can change before an order is submitted.

What Has to Happen for a YES Contract to Pay $1?

The market asks one exact question: Which living person will Google rank #1 in the People category of its official global Year in Search 2026 report? A YES contract on a person pays $1 only if Google places that person first in that category. It pays $0 if Google places anyone else first.

It isn't asking who receives the most total Google searches during 2026. It also isn't decided by Ahrefs monthly search volume, the overall Searches list, the News list, the Passings list, or a country-specific ranking. Only Google's official global People category decides the result.

This distinction matters because a name can dominate another category without winning People. If Liam Payne were listed first under Searches but Donald Trump were first under People, the Trump contract would resolve Yes under the stated market terms. Google's methodology also says the People section covers living individuals, while people who died during the measured period belong in Passings.

The Official List Beats Every Outside Estimate

Monthly search-volume tools, Google Trends comparisons, media coverage, and prediction-market prices can help traders study the question. None of them replaces Google's final published 2026 Global People ranking. The official release is the settlement source.

The broader RANKLIST rules require the result to come from the primary publisher's official release. If a named ranking has multiple categories, only the category specified in the contract title applies. If multiple people tie for the top position, the contract rules provide for the tied payout to be divided among the tied names, rounded down as described in the rulebook.

Settlement is scheduled after the official result becomes available, unless the outcome enters review. Traders should read the full contract terms before submitting an order because the exact expiration, settlement timing, tie treatment, source wording, and review process control the payout.

Current Kalshi Prices for Every Listed Person

The market currently lists 16 possible people. A YES contract pays $1 if the selected name finishes #1 in the qualifying People list and $0 if that person doesn't. The price is the amount paid per contract before fees and order-book movement.

Our Kalshi Prediction Markets guide explains YES and NO contracts, prices, order books, settlement rules, and possible payouts in more detail.

Gross profit equals the $1 winning payout minus the listed purchase price. It doesn't include fees, slippage, or a higher average price caused by limited order-book depth.

Current Monthly Google Search Estimates

The August 31 keyword data measures estimated search volume in the United States and worldwide. Those figures show sustained demand for each name, but they don't measure the year-over-year breakout growth that Google uses for Year in Search.

Monthly search figures are estimates and can differ by database, country setting, update date, keyword definition, and methodology. They aren't Google's official Year in Search ranking.

Why the Search Tools and Kalshi Tell Different Stories

One third-party global-volume list placed Donald Trump first in March 2026 with 7.5 million estimated monthly searches. Taylor Swift followed with 4.1 million, while Elon Musk and Kamala Harris each stood at 3.4 million. Another August list placed Lionel Messi first over the prior 30 days, Donald Trump second, and Taylor Swift sixth.

The current U.S. keyword file places Trump first and Swift second. A direct Google Trends comparison, meanwhile, shows Swift with a slight current edge. Each result can be accurate within its own measurement because the databases use different regions, dates, queries, sampling methods, and definitions.

Monthly Search Volume

This estimates how many searches a name receives during a typical or recent month. High volume shows persistent public attention.

Google Trends Interest

This uses a relative index rather than publishing raw search totals. The comparison changes by location, time range, search type, and whether the query is treated as a term or topic.

Google Year in Search

This identifies the searches that increased the fastest compared with the same period one year earlier. It measures breakout growth, not the largest raw total.

Kalshi Prices

These reflect current trading activity and available orders. Prices can move as traders react to news, search trends, and changes in the expected Year in Search methodology.

Google Calls These Trending Searches, Not the Most Searched Names

The market title uses the phrase “#1 searched person,” but Google's methodology is more specific. Its annual lists represent top trending queries, which are the searches that increased the fastest during the measured period compared with the same period one year earlier.

Google says it measures the spike in interest rather than the total number of searches. That approach prevents consistently popular terms from occupying the same annual list every year simply because their normal baseline is already enormous.

The baseline effect is critical for names such as Donald Trump, Taylor Swift, Elon Musk, and Lionel Messi. Each person receives substantial search attention in an ordinary month. To lead a breakout ranking, the name may need a much larger increase over its already-high prior-year level than a person who begins 2026 with a lower baseline.

That helps explain why Haaland and Bad Bunny can lead the prediction market while Trump and Swift lead the monthly U.S. search-volume estimates. The prices suggest traders are considering the possibility that a major sports, entertainment, or news event creates a sharper year-over-year increase for another name.

Donald Trump Has Led Several Third-Party Annual Search Lists

Historical search-volume research names Trump as the most Googled person in 2021 and during each of the past three completed years. That record supports the conclusion that his name generates persistent search demand, but it doesn't establish that he led Google's official Global People trend ranking in each year.

Year Third-Party Most Googled Person Important Context
2025Donald TrumpBased on the third-party annual search-volume methodology.
2024Donald TrumpGoogle's official Global People trend list also placed Trump first.
2023Donald TrumpGoogle's official Global People trend list placed Damar Hamlin first.
2022Will SmithSearch interest surged after the Oscars incident involving Chris Rock.
2021Donald TrumpThis is a third-party search-volume result, not the 2026 contract source.
2020Kobe BryantSearch interest surged after his death in January.

The table reports a third-party historical series. Google's official Year in Search uses a separate trending-search methodology, and the 2026 contract is limited to Google's Global People list.

Author's Opinion

I'm Predicting Donald Trump

The following section reflects Robert Beadle's personal prediction.

I used our paid Ahrefs keyword research account to compare the U.S. monthly search volume for every name listed in this market. Donald Trump leads at about 3.3 million searches per month, followed closely by Taylor Swift at about 3 million. Savannah Guthrie is third at 1.8 million, so I'm confident the strongest choice will be either Trump or Swift.

Google Trends has shown Swift with a slight lead at points, but four months remain in 2026. The midterm elections, the war with Iran, immigration, and major social issues could all generate more searches for Trump before Google's final list is published. Trump and Swift are also the only two people in this market with more than 3 million estimated monthly searches in our Ahrefs data.

Third-party annual search research has also placed Trump first in each of the past three years, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Google's official Year in Search People list uses trending growth instead of raw total search volume, so that history doesn't guarantee the 2026 result. Even with that important difference, I don't see this year ending differently.

My personal prediction is that Google will rank Donald Trump #1 in the global People category. I expect him to finish the year with another major surge in search interest. I know a lot of Swifties will disagree, and that's okay. That's what predictions are about: using our own research, following new information, and forming an opinion before the final result is known. What Can Change the 2026 People Ranking?

Four months remain before the end of 2026, and search interest can change rapidly. Political events, the U.S. midterm elections, international conflict, immigration policy, social issues, sports, music releases, awards, films, business news, legal proceedings, and unexpected breaking news can all produce new spikes.

Political figures in this market may receive additional attention as the midterm campaign intensifies and major policy stories develop. Athletes may gain attention from club competitions, international games, records, transfers, injuries, or major awards. Musicians and actors can move after new releases, tours, public appearances, awards, or widely reported personal news.

The decisive variable isn't simply how many people search a name. The market asks which living person records the fastest-rising qualifying search interest and finishes first in the official global People list. A major late-year event can therefore change both Google Trends and the contract prices with little notice.

The current new-customer promotion, requirements, and current terms are available on our Kalshi promo codes page.

Who Will Finish First in Google's 2026 People List?

The available data doesn't produce one certain result. Haaland and Bad Bunny lead the current market, Trump and Swift lead the U.S. monthly search estimates, and a recent third-party 30-day ranking places Messi first. Google Trends comparisons can also change when the date range, location, query type, or topic setting changes.

The result won't come from any outside keyword tool or prediction-market chart. Google will decide it by publishing the person ranked #1 in the global People category of its Year in Search 2026 report.

Until that list is published, the most useful updates will be changes in breakout search interest, late-year news events, market prices, order-book depth, and any clarification Google provides about its 2026 measurement period.
