Coinbase Prediction Markets
Coinbase Predictions lets eligible US customers buy and sell event contracts alongside crypto, stocks and other financial products in the Coinbase app. This guide explains how the prediction markets work, what winning contracts pay, how Coinbase fits the product into its wider platform and why an existing Coinbase customer may prefer one connected account.
Promotion terms, eligibility, reward amounts and qualifying activity can change. Review the current offer and account disclosures before making a purchase or placing a trade.
What Is Coinbase Predictions?
Coinbase Predictions provides access to event contracts through Coinbase Financial Markets. Each market asks a defined question about a future result, lists the possible outcomes and assigns live prices based on current buying and selling activity. New visitors can review our broader guide to Prediction Markets before comparing the Coinbase product with other exchanges.
Contract prices run between $0 and $1 and represent the market's implied probability. Buying Yes at $0.65 means the market currently prices that outcome near a 65% chance. Correct contracts settle at $1, incorrect contracts settle at $0, and traders can sell before the event closes when another participant is available at an acceptable price.
How Coinbase Prediction Markets Work
Each trade requires a review of the question, contract price, market rules and settlement source before an order is submitted.
Choose an Event
Browse sports, politics, crypto, culture, economics, entertainment, weather and other real-world questions.
Buy Your Position
Select the outcome you believe is underpriced and review the number of contracts, current price and transaction fee.
Follow the Price
Hold the position, add contracts or sell before settlement when the market moves and enough liquidity is available.
Receive the Result
Winning contracts pay $1 each after the result is confirmed. Losing contracts pay $0 and the original purchase cost is lost.
Coinbase Prediction Contract Example
Suppose you buy 100 Yes contracts at $0.40 each, which creates a $40 position before transaction fees. The market price can rise or fall before the event is decided, so you may sell some or all of the contracts early when buyers are available. When the selected result occurs and the market settles Yes, the 100 contracts pay $100, producing a $60 gross profit before fees. When the selected result doesn't occur, the contracts settle at $0 and the full $40 purchase cost is lost. Selling before settlement produces a gain or loss based on the difference between your purchase price and the execution price, minus applicable fees.

Why Traders May Prefer Coinbase Predictions
Coinbase's main advantage is account consolidation. Customers who already hold USD, USDC, crypto or stocks can research and manage another asset class without building an entirely separate financial setup.
One Familiar Account
Existing customers can use the Coinbase interface, account security and identity profile they already know instead of learning another standalone platform.
USD and USDC Funding
Eligible cash balances can fund prediction contracts, and settled money returns to the Coinbase account for another prediction or a different supported product.
Crypto Context
Crypto traders can compare spot prices, market activity and crypto event contracts without moving between unrelated applications.
Stocks Beside Crypto
Eligible US customers can view stocks, crypto and predictions in one app, making it easier to assess exposure across separate asset types.
Public Company Transparency
Coinbase Global trades on Nasdaq under COIN and publishes audited financial statements and quarterly disclosures as a public company.
Integrated Support and Records
Account history, balances, security settings and customer support are available through the wider Coinbase experience.
Coinbase Prediction Market Categories
The navigation is built around broad categories and trending events, with new contracts added as measurable questions develop.
Sports
Games, tournaments, player results, team outcomes, season milestones and other sports events with stated settlement rules.
Crypto
Bitcoin and altcoin price thresholds, ranges, deadlines, returns and other outcomes connected to digital asset markets.
Politics and Elections
Candidates, nominations, election results, control questions, appointments and political developments.
Entertainment
Awards, movies, television, music, public appearances and measurable entertainment-industry outcomes.
Economics and Financials
Federal Reserve decisions, rates, inflation, company results, commodities and other scheduled financial events.
Weather, Science and Technology
Temperatures, weather observations, scientific milestones, product releases and technology-industry questions.
Coinbase Predictions vs Dedicated Prediction Platforms
Coinbase competes on convenience and platform breadth, while a prediction-focused exchange may compete on event selection, liquidity, specialized tools or the depth of its prediction community.
| Feature | Coinbase Predictions | Dedicated Prediction Platform |
|---|---|---|
| Primary reason to join | Predictions inside a broader crypto, stocks and financial account | Purpose-built access centered on event contracts |
| Funding convenience | Uses eligible USD and USDC connected to the Coinbase account | Requires the funding methods supported by that exchange |
| Portfolio view | Predictions can sit beside other Coinbase products | Usually centers the account on event positions |
| Market specialization | Part of Coinbase's wider financial product strategy | Research, navigation and tools may be more prediction-specific |
| Best fit | Existing Coinbase users who value one connected app | Traders who prioritize a dedicated event-contract experience |
Traders comparing US options may also review Kalshi, which operates as a separate prediction exchange. Polymarket provides another distinct product structure. Market availability, pricing and liquidity can differ across platforms, so compare the actual contract rather than relying only on the brand name.
Funding, Fees, Trading Hours and Payouts
Coinbase Predictions uses a separate predictions balance with rules that differ from ordinary crypto and stock transactions.
Eligibility
Coinbase states that prediction markets are available to US residents, excluding Nevada as of this review. Account approval and market access depend on current eligibility rules.
Funding
Prediction contracts can be purchased with eligible USD and USDC. Unrealized gains can't fund another contract until the position is sold or settled.
Trading Hours
Trading is generally available 24/7, except for Thursday maintenance from 3:00 AM to 5:00 AM ET and other exchange, holiday or regulatory interruptions.
Transaction Fees
Prediction trades include fees. Coinbase displays the current fee breakdown on the order confirmation screen before the order is submitted.
Selling Before the Result
Positions can be sold early to lock in a gain or reduce a loss, but execution depends on available buyers, price movement and liquidity. Larger orders may fill in separate pieces at different prices.
Final Settlement
Each market lists a source of truth and a closure schedule. Winning contracts settle at $1 and losing contracts settle at $0 after the result is confirmed and the payout process is completed.
What Coinbase Is Beyond Prediction Markets
Coinbase began as a crypto platform in 2012 and now describes its goal as building an everything exchange for crypto, stocks, derivatives, predictions and related financial services.
Buy, Sell and Hold Crypto
Retail customers can trade supported digital assets, manage wallets, transfer funds and use Coinbase Advanced for order-book trading.
Trade Stocks and ETFs
Coinbase Capital Markets provides eligible US customers with stocks, ETFs, fractional shares and extended-hours access for supported securities.
Use Derivatives
Coinbase offers futures and other derivatives through regulated or jurisdiction-specific entities, with eligibility and risk rules that differ by product.
Earn and Stake
Eligible customers can earn rewards on selected assets or staking activity, subject to regional availability, rates and product terms.
Coinbase One
Membership tiers can include trading-fee allowances, USDC rewards, staking boosts, account protection features and priority support.
Business and Institutional Tools
Coinbase also serves companies, professional investors, developers and payment businesses through Prime, custody, APIs and stablecoin infrastructure.
Coinbase Security, Compliance and Separate Product Entities
Coinbase combines several financial products in one interface, but the legal provider and customer protections can differ across predictions, stocks and crypto.
Predictions
Event-contract access is offered through Coinbase Financial Markets, a registered futures commission merchant and NFA member.
Stocks and ETFs
Securities are offered through Coinbase Capital Markets. Customers complete separate brokerage onboarding before stock trading becomes available.
Crypto Services
Crypto services are offered through Coinbase Inc., including buying, selling, storing, transferring, and managing supported digital assets.
Security
Coinbase uses identity verification, encryption, two-factor authentication, security monitoring, and additional account safeguards.
Risk Still Belongs to the Trader
Regulation and account security don't prevent an incorrect prediction, a falling crypto price or a stock loss. Prediction contracts can lose their entire purchase cost, crypto prices can move sharply and stock orders placed outside regular hours can face reduced liquidity. Prediction gains, crypto sales, conversions, rewards and stock trades can also create tax consequences. Coinbase reports can help organize activity completed on the platform, but they don't replace records from other accounts or advice from a qualified tax professional.
Review Coinbase Products Before You Trade
Compare the current promotion, prediction contract, crypto price or stock order before committing funds. Confirm eligibility, fees, settlement rules and the maximum amount you could lose, then decide whether Coinbase's connected account fits how you want to manage the position.
